NB: Deze masterclass is speciaal bestemd voor fysio- en manueeltherapeuten die de NPi-cursus 'Oefenprogramma's bij perifere vestibulaire en cervicogene duizeligheid' of een vergelijkbare scholing hebben gevolgd, dan wel een ruime praktische ervaring hebben met patiënten met duizeligheidsklachten.

Inhoud
Vestibular dysfunction is often complex – it may be difficult to diagnose, challenging to manage, or complicated by other issues such as motion sensitivity. This course provides an in-depth and comprehensive look at assessment and management of patients with complex vestibular and cervical conditions, including peripheral and central vestibular dysfunction. Discussions will focus on understanding complex vestibular pathologies and cervical dysfunctions, interpretation of clinical assessment findings, differential diagnosis, treatment of (un)complicated BPPV and cervicogenic dizziness, progression of peripheral and central vestibular rehabilitation programmes, and management of migraines and motion intolerance. Demonstration and practical sessions will focus on the application of concepts and on providing individual feedback on clinical assessment and treatment skills. Participants will receive an extensive course manual that includes all relevant information and reference lists.

Doel
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the pathophysiology and management of complex peripheral and central vestibular conditions including vestibular migraines and motion intolerance;
• Administer and interpret all peripheral and central vestibular clinical tests;
• Differentially diagnose complex vestibular conditions;
• Assess and treat uncomplicated and complicated forms of BPPV;
• Assess and treat cervicogenic dizziness;
• Apply the principles of exercise progression for treatment of patients with peripheral and central vestibular dysfunctions.

Over de docent
Nicole Acerra, PhD, has eleven years experience in neurological and vestibular physiotherapy. Nicole has worked in Canada, the US, and Australia, where she undertook doctoral studies at The University of Queensland. Her post-doctoral research at Dr Lara Boyd’s Brain Behaviour Lab at University of British Columbia (UBC) investigated the mechanisms underlying neuroplasticity and motor learning after stroke. Nicole is currently the Acute Neurosciences, Spine & Critical Care Physiotherapy Practice Coordinator for Vancouver Coastal Health. Nicole treats patients with complex vestibular and facial disorders, provides vestibular and neurological post-graduate courses, and is Clinical Faculty at UBC. Nicole has presented at the World Congresses of Neurology, Pain, and Physical Therapy, and has published her research in high-ranking journals such as Neurology.

Toetsing
Voorafgaand aan de masterclass krijgen de deelnemers een zelftoets toegezonden om voor zichzelf na te gaan of hun kennis over de fysiologie en pathologie van het vestibulaire systeem voldoende actueel is.

Certificaat
Bij 100% aanwezigheid wordt na afloop van de masterclass aan de deelnemers een certificaat uitgereikt als bewijs van deelname.

Accreditatie
Deze masterclass is door het KNGF geaccrediteerd voor het register Algemeen fysiotherapeut (16 punten) en het register Geriatriefysiotherapeut (16 punten).

Meenemen
De deelnemers aan deze masterclass worden verzocht om twee badlakens en een hoofdkussen mee te nemen.
