Inhoud
Aangezien deze cursus in het Engels wordt gegeven, is de beschrijving van de cursusinhoud hieronder ook in het Engels weergegeven.

This course is an introduction to Basic Body Awareness Therapy (B BAT), to basic human movement principles and movement quality. It focuses on aspects of movements, using simple movements from daily life. It includes practical movement sessions, lectures, groupwork and clinical implementation. There will be time for questions, reflections and sharing of experiences and different learning situations, ourselves, in pair of two and in groups. The movement pedagogy follows principles of learning through movement experiencing together with theory.

What is Basic Body Awareness Therapy?
B BAT is an evidence-based physiotherapy method aiming to mobilize a person’s resources for health by guiding him to be present in the here-and-now, while experiencing simple everyday movements in lying, sitting, standing and walking. Touch, massage, relational exercises and use of the voice are also included. Integrating balance, free breathing and awareness into daily movements is central to this process.

By increasing body awareness and improving the movement quality it is possible to use oneself more effectively, have more contact with body and feelings, set boundaries, have more confidence relating to others and cope more easily with the demands of everyday life.

B BAT is not only suitable for people suffering from musculo-skeletal problems, eating disorders, violence, physical and/or psychological problems, but also for stress management, health promotion and personal development. It can be used in individual and group therapy. It represents a person-centred approach. The strength of B BAT is that the experience and the involvement of the person is paramount for treatment progress.

B BAT is originally based on the French movement-educator Jacques Dropsy’s movement system. It is inspired from Western and Eastern movement traditions, integrating elements from modern dance and acting. B BAT has been developed in Physiotherapy during the last 30 years by the International Teachers Group of Basic Body Awareness Therapy. At an international level, Bergen University College, Norway, offers a two year part-time course for English speaking students to qualify to become a B BAT-therapist (60 ECTS).

B BAT includes assessment tools, the Body Awareness Rating Scale (BARS) and the Body Awareness Scale (BAS), interview skills and a structured rehabilitation model. It offers therapeutic elements for use in individual and group therapy, and a movement vocabulary.

Practical information
We will work practical in sessions for more than 2 hours, twice per day. Bring clothes for the movement session, so that you can move and breath freely. It is wise to bring a pair of socks, and a warm sweater. Shoes are not needed for the movement sessions. During the days, attending the course, arrange your free-time, to rest and digest the content in between. This will support your learning.
